How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?

  1. 1. I don't think it is going to heavily effect the team in years to come, however this could make the team more hungry and determined to make it in 2022.

    2. They will lose supporters, interest, and money as the wold cuprous such a good job of gaining supporters and money for the countrys team.

    3. No, but it can make people think the team is worse and U.S. soccer is still far behind other countries.

    4. Yes. US is in the easiest group in the world to make the world cup, so there is no other excuse to not making the tournament besides that they are just a bad team.

  2. 1. I think the U.S. mens soccer team is going to use this event as motivation in the future for the next World Cup tournament because of how heart breaking this was for the entire team.

    2. This is going to affect the US men's soccer team as said earlier to be more determined and motivated in the future and this event will affect the support for the team by possibly losing fans and support for the team.

    3. I do not think this changes the perspective of American soccer because I don't think anyone in the world looks at American soccer as a true competitor or threat. If this was a top team like Germany it would definitely change the perspective of the team.

    4. I do not think losing to the 99th ranked team makes the US a bad team because every team in the sports world has a bad game and this is what happened to the US during this game.

  3. 1. Obviously, after many years of success in the world cup, it is unfortunate that the team did not qualify this year. But this is only a temporary set back. In years to come, I don't think that it will make them less hungry or motivated to do well. If anything, it makes them more motivated to do well in future years.

    2. Obviously this is upsetting to the country and the US team, but I don't think that it will affect supporters views in any way. If you are an American then you will most likely love and support this team throughout their journey. I don't think this will change from year to year.

    3. I don't think this changes the perspective on American soccer as a whole. We have never been considered a power house country for soccer and losing is expected at some point. It is unfortunate that it happened this early on but a whole change in perspective is not likely.

    4. I do think that it is a little embarrassing on the part of the US national team. They are expected to preform in this bracket and when they do not it opens peoples eyes. But, in years to come it will motivate the team to preform better when it counts the most.

  4. I think the team will be able to recover from this and it is more of just an upset that they wont get to play at the World Cup. I don't think it will have a major effect on the future besides the new manager.

Missing out on the World Cup is very upsetting for the teams supporters because it only comes around every four years, but most of them are loyal fans and will remain rooting for their country. However they are missing out on a opportunity to gain more fans.

This doesn't change the perspective of American soccer because they aren't expected to be a great team. Supporters usually expect them to at least qualify but they never seem to be a real threat. It is a surprise they lost this early but I don't think it is a huge shock considering they have never been a great team.

Yes losing to a bad team does make the team look worse. However many great teams in sports have lost to a team they should've beat. Upsets happen all the time and teams are able to recover.

  5. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
This should effect the U.S. national team in coming years. There will likely be less interest in the sport in America as people tend to sway towards our more successful sports like basketball or hockey. So, future generations of potential soccer players won’t want o join a losing culture, and existing national team players might choose to represent other nations due to the fact that multiple American players have dual citizenships.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters?
This affects the US team and its supporters because it shows that the US team is not necessarily as strong as it is supposed to be. Supporters will likely lose interest in the team because of their lack of presence at the World Cup. Many American soccer fans are considered fair weather fans, as in they only show up when the team is doing well. So, the organization, team, and fans will all have to wait until the next opportunity to qualify for the World Cup in order to reestablish interest.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
This does change the perspective of American soccer. Internationally and domestically, it makes our team seem weaker and incapable. It also shows the result of having an abnormal system of youth soccer in the US, which involves players going to college, instead of the European way of playing at youth and then senior clubs. The perspective also changes because US soccer has never been a truly elite club, and this sets back any argument that would consider the US capable of taking down a top team like Brazil or Germany.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?
It does make the Mens team look bad. At the time, the US was ranked 24th, so they should beat the 99th ranked team. This game should have secured the World Cup spot for the US, but instead, it disqualified them. Henceforth, national interest has decreased and will continue to decrease, quality of play may decrease as athletes choose not to play soccer in the US, and the team is viewed as vulnerable.

  6. I actually think this will have a positive impact on US soccer because it will make the players and fans more hungry to succeed next time around. I think that taking the World Cup for granted may have contributed to their elimination and I don’t think that will happen again.
    2. I think in the short term more fans will be unwilling to go to a game because of anger with the team, but when the next World Cup comes around that will change.
    3. I think this takes away legitimacy from US soccer. The team was taking strides and now this is a major setback that proves we are not on the same level of some other countries. I think this shifts the perspective from a positive up and coming team to a team that is not ready to be competitive.
    4. No because it is still one game. They were bad that day. I don’t think one day should have that big of an effect, although not qualifying for the World Cup as a whole may make them bad in some people's opinion.

  7. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
    - This will effect the US mens soccer team in years to come because it will be a real wake up call to the players and front office of the team. They have to realize the caliber at which they need to play to be successful in this competitive world. If that means firing the coach, starting to recruit earlier, or more practice time, then that is what must happen for the team to be successful.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters
    - They will definitely take a hit on the number of US mens soccer supporters. If this happened, that means they will also be advertised less because less people are viewing and supporting them. This loss could have detrimental impact.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
    - I don't think so. American soccer has never been viewed as an elite sport in the country and the world. This loss solidifies the stereotype that european countries and african countries are better than America.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?

    - Yes. Although it is just one game, it was the most important game and they had to win. They were in the easiest pool of teams, meaning they would not have survived anywhere else.

  8. 1. This will act as a motivation to the young talented players to make our country proud of them. They will spend this summer reviewing their flaws, and practicing to become better. This may be devastating now, but this will be a benefit in the long run.

    2. This will have an extremely negative effect on the fans. They will lose interest because their won't be something to watch, and will have negative feelings towards the programs future.

    3. No, soccer has only a recent growth in popularity in America. Our team has never been great, and success won't come until the future.

    4. No it does not. It is evident we have a talented roster, because many players have been shinning for their club teams. The issue is that many of our players are young/inexperienced, and the chemistry of the team needs to improve.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1. I think this will just fuel the national team to work even harder. This is kind of a wake up call that you can't take qualifying for granted. The front office needs to figure out what's wrong with the players and coaches, and build for a stronger team in the future.
    2. This obviously upsets their fans, but when the next world cup comes around it will be forgotten. The team has some time to sulk about this and watch from home, but as I said they will be determined.
    3. America isn't a country well known for their soccer, but this may have brought more attention then usual to the team. Because of this, people now may have an false idea that America is a very poor soccer country, yet it is still a growing sport and should have lots of future success.
    4. I don't know a lot about this years team, but I am a believer that any given day there can be an upset. It started with an own goal, and clearly the players were just having an off day. They came out a little slow, and by the time it hit them it was too late. They simply played down to Trinidad and Tobago's level, who played a solid game.

  10. 1. This is going a good place for the USMT to restart and consider the future. Right now a 19 year old kid is having to put his country on his back which in a sport like soccer is never going to turn out well. I think in 4 years time, the national team will be a lot stronger with many other young talents emerging.
    2. In a country that values its own sports more than soccer, it is easy to say that the once-in-four-years collection of fans will probably not be sticking around for next world cup. However for the fans of the sport, the world cup is too special to miss.
    3. Personally, no. I've always thought that any American team to make it out of the group stage was either lucky or were the obvious underdogs. It has been obvious that on an individual talent basis (with few exceptions) America has always been a step behind, now that the well managed tactics are being renewed by new staff members, it will be interesting to see how the new tactics bond with the incoming talent.
    4. No absolutely not. Soccer is a cruel sport. A team can be totally in control and in domination with as many shots imaginable but as long as the shots don't turn into goals, then the other team can win on only one chance. Similar to both the goals conceded by the USMT.

  11. How is this going to affect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
It could have a downfall on the players that try out for the team as players may not take much pride in a team that cannot qualify. While it could change the expectations for the years to come the players may be eager to qualify and become more motivated with not qualifying.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters
Obviously it will affect the Americans watching at home because they want to be watching their nation and have nationalism through the World Cup. While the team won’t be playing they will have to soak it in the painful fact of not qualifying when the World Cup comes around.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
Sure, it will be seen as not as good, just like if any country did bad at soccer or did not qualify it says something about how good that country is at that sport. They didn’t qualify and lost to small countries, as a result you can say that America isn’t good at soccer. While this can affect fans especially young ones who play that won’t see their country on TV that otherwise would grow interest in playing soccer.
Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?
Yes, if they lose to a bad tea usually it means they are bad. Also, they lost to other not so great teams.

  12. 1. I think that this will motivate future US soccer teams. Players know that it is the biggest international honor to represent your team in the World Cup. There are a lot of young players on the team and they will definitely be trying to come back strong and qualify for the next cup.

    2. Similarly to what I said in question 1, this will motivate the players and the teams supporters. Even though soccer is not the biggest sport in the US, it is one of the fastest growing sports. The future is looking bright.

    3. I never thought that the US mens team was great. I always thought that they should qualify for the world cup, but it always surprised me if they made it out of the group stage. While this is a bit of an embarrassment, it is not a huge surprise and it shouldn't change the perspective too much.

    4. This loss does not make them any worse as a team. Although it is a bad loss, its sports. Upsets happen and that's why we love sports. It wasn't the result they were looking for but it doesn't make them a bad team.

    ReplyDelete
  13. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
    - I think this will be motivation for the team as a whole and each of the players to train, work, and practice harder. This will also make it a bigger deal for the team to make the cup next time.
In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters
    - This is going to upset and lose some fans, but going to make some fans more supportive. The fans who love and support will back their team up for the next few years.
Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
    - American soccer has always been viewed as less than south American and European, but with the elimination of making from the world cup American soccer may be viewed as much worse than before.
Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?
    - No, all teams sometimes lose to worse ranked teams, that doesn't make a team worse unless its a constant, repeat thing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
The morale of the US soccer team will go down and they will be more determined to qualify for the next world cup. There will be even more pressure on the team to make the next world cup.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters
This will upset a lot of US soccer fans and will lose the interest for US soccer of many Americans. This is a huge problem because soccer deserves more attention in America and a situation like this will only make America lose interest.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
It changes how other countries and Americans view the US soccer program. To have a huge country like the US lose to a tiny country like Trinidad and Tabago, will make people think that the national program isn't efficient and is no where near good enough.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?
No, because even the best teams can play a bad game but it's still disappointing that the US didn't put all their effort into the game. The US will continue to be considered a bad team as long as they don't put the effort in.

  16. 1.I think that this will hurt U.S Soccer in the long run due to the fact the quality of the soccer in the U.S looks poor, future generations are more likely to play more American Sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball etc). Counties with lots of young talent also happen to have great senior national team. The U.S have a large population yet they are not super successful in Soccer, and this hurts the culture of Soccer in the US.

2.This affects the US men’s soccer team because it dismisses their program. It really looks like an embarrassment, the most loyal fans will ride with the team but it has caused anger with a lot of fans.

3.This does change the perspective of American soccer. It makes the U.S like a sub-par program, part of this is due to the fact the youth program (College) is different than the European style of Youth developmental clubs that feed straight into the pros.
    4.

It does cause the U.S men’s team to look bad, with the USA was ranked 24th and with a massive population losing to a 99th ranked team exposes the weakness of the program.

  17. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?
I think this will have a pretty big effect on the US men's soccer team in years to come by causing new coaching staff including a new coach after their coach resigned. I think their team can only improve because they didn't make the tournament this year.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters?
I think this will not affect the supporters because they will continue to root for the one mens soccer team there is in America.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?
Yes this changes the perspective because people previously viewed it as very good but now it isn't as good as it used to be

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?
Obviously it makes the US team look bad because they lost to a terrible team when they were generally ranked high.

    ReplyDelete
  18. How is this going to affect the US men's soccer team in years to come?

I think that this will make the soccer team rethink their management and staff. There was no reason that they should’ve lost. For the coach to not play their best players was one of the main reasons team USA lost. However, besides a small staff change, this won’t have a huge effect on their team. They might improve though, as this humiliating loss will make them work harder so that this will never happen again.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters

The soccer team will lose some supporters because most people don’t pay attention to USA soccer, as there are many better teams to follow. And with US not in the biggest soccer tournament in the world, fans will not be happy and they will lose lots of popularity.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?

I think to some it does and to others it doesn’t. To real soccer fans who follow soccer passionately, this won’t affect their views because they know it’s a fluke. Its an embarrassing loss, but it was a mistake. And to the people who only follow soccer for the world cup and to bandwagon, they’ll think American soccer is bad because of one poor lose.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?

No because it was one game. The only reason US lost was because their backup defender scored an own goal. US is also ranked in the mid-low 20’s out of all the teams, and there’s a reason they maintain such a good ranking. However, this does expose the US as being a weaker team, as they do have flaws in their defense and midfield. Outside of their striker, Pulisic, they struggle to put together another 10 solid players. I wouldn’t say US is bad, but this game shows how they’re weaker in certain aspects.

  19. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?

This probably won't effect them that much. If anything it will encourage them to do better and to redeem themselves next time, or, it will lead to a restructuring of the team which will make them better in the future.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters

Obviously this would deflate everyone supporting the US men's team, as well as the players. It might decrease interest from fans, but it will likely make players work harder to do better next time.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?

It makes American Soccer look very bad in that they not only got eliminated, but they got eliminated by a team that isn't supposed to be nearly as good as them.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?

No. Things happen in sports. In any sport a worst team can beat a top team, that's just how it works. It just means that one team didn't perform up to their ability which is never an excuse for losing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How is this going to effect the US men's soccer team in years to come?

I think that this will have a huge affect on the US soccer teams in the future. I think that after this lost, this will call for new coaching for the team. Also, a lot of people in front office are probably going to be fired. For the players, they can use this loss as an advantage. They will become more hungry and determined in the years to come. They will be better prepared for the next time they play in a game like this.

In what way is this going to affect the US men's soccer team and their supporters?

Obviously, the country is going to root for their players and their team with a lot of passion, but I think it is going to have a negative affect on their supporters. This loss was a complete embarrassment, and it showed the lack of preparation and drive the players had. Fans will never look at this team the same again until they come back in future years, and prove they are a force to be reckoned with.

Does this change the perspective of American soccer?

Yes, I think that it does change the perspective of American soccer. Originally, they were viewed as a very good team, always a contender in the world cup. Now that they won't be in it, many teams, including Trinidad and Tobago, are now looking down at them, something many countries believed wasn't even possible.

Does losing to a team that is ranked 99th in the world make the US men's team bad?

No, I don't think it makes them bad. You can't judge a team based off of one game, although the importance of it was very big. What it does do is makes the team look bad. Losing to a team ranked as low as Trinidad and Tobago is very embarrassing, especially for the USA. The US mens soccer team is going to have to re-prove them self, otherwise their soccer program will never be looked at the same again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think this will act as a motivation for US men's soccer in the years to come. This was a truly embarrassing showing by a program that has so much money and resources being put into it and there is a certain bar that is supposed to be met. I think the players and the coaches will learn from this epic defeat and rebound nicely for the 2022.

I think the US men's soccer team will lose a significant amount of supporters following the disappointment of the world cup qualifying. The greatest interest in US soccer occurs during the World cup and the US's absence from it will have a dramatic decrease in popularity.

I think the US failing to make the world cup will only hurt the country's interest in soccer as a whole. Nationwide popularity in soccer has always been a struggle with the US as many of the world's premiere players are from European powerhouses as opposed to America. The US has finally had a little success in the MLS, the US's professional soccer league, but not making the world cup could have a serious impact on those numbers.

No I do not think the players on the US soccer team is bad nor is the organization bad but something clearly needs to change in the team's culture. The team has some great young talent but the mentality and the identity of the team needs to be found and found soon. This cannot happen again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. I think that this failure to reach the World Cup will be used as motivation to make the next world cup in order to restore American pride. However, this is not the first time that they have not qualified for the World Cup, so I believe that the team will be able to bounce back like before, and be able to be successful in the future.

2.While Americans might not have the same feelings towards soccer as other countries, we still do see it as a source of pride and nationalism. From my personal experience, I know that during the World Cup, people gather around the television who don't normally watch soccer and they supported the team. This lack of qualification is devastating for the supporters of the team and for the pride the American people have shown in past years.

    3. This lack of qualification for the World Cup may promote the notion that Americans are not good at soccer and that Americans don't care about soccer. Because of the lack of success and representation of U.S. soccer players in Europe, people have determined that Americans simply don't have that same passion as other countries for soccer.

    4. While the U.S. soccer team has been going down a slump these past few years, I don't believe it makes the team bad. I believe this because every team and player goes through ups and downs it their career, so it is inevitable to happen. However, young players like Christian Pulisic will revitalize the U.S. soccer team to be seen as good.
