Ezekiel Elliot suspension Will and Alex

Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?

  1. I do not think he deserves a suspension because he is yet to be proven guilty in court. I do not think the NFL should be able to suspend players over accusations that do not have full substance to them.

I think Zeke should have just served his suspension at the beginning of the season. it is much better to serve it then, compared to now having to sit out at the end of the season when the Cowboys need him the most.

I think that he should've taken the suspension at the beginning of the year, but at this point I think he should have kept appealing. He is currently sitting out important games, so he might as well try to fight to prove his innocence.

I think the suspension gives the Cowboys a bad look because they have a history of having players that are criminals. Although Zeke may be innocent, most people will just see a suspension and assume he is guilty, which does give them a bad look.

  2. I think he does deserve do be suspended for 6 games because he was found guilty when the NFL did there investigation. So he can't really go against the investigation that proves he is guilty
    .

I think if I was that team I would have let him take the last 6 games of the season because if they can get a good lead in the first couple games and get far enough ahead. Then they don't have to worry about the last 6 games.

I would do what he did, and just take the 6 game suspension. Because it wouldn't make any sense for him to continue to go into court every month and just keep getting the date pushed back. Instead just take the 6 game suspension and not appeal.

I think it does give them a bad look, because whenever a case like this happens. A lot of people get upset, and when he tried to appeal it took a lot of playing time from him and he is a good player so when he doesn't play and they lose people will get upset.

  3. I believe that Zeke does deserve the suspension that he was given. He violated the NFL's policy and for that he should be punished. There is really no reason for him to fuel the fire even more, just take the punishment and move on with your career.

If I was the cowboys, I would rather have him serve his penalty at the beginning of the season opposed to the end. The end of the season is when games really start to count for a lot more and with what he did last year (2016 season), he would have been very productive with all the drama past him opposed to having it follow him through his season.

I would have just taken the suspension from the beginning. The NFL is a very powerful organization and if they want something, you know they will find a way to make that possible. Also, if he took the suspension from the beginning he wouldn't have had to play the entire year with another weight on his shoulders.

I think after the season that they had in 2016 it does in fact give them a bad look. They had two great up-in-coming rookies and now that this happened over the off season, it puts a hold on their chances to becoming great again.

I don't think that he deserved a suspension because he was never proven guilty in court, and I think that everyone should be innocent until proven guilty.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?
I think that at the end of the season would be the best because in terms of strength of schedule, they play the giants, raiders, and chargers which are games they can definetely win without Zeke.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
I would have continued to appeal because I would not let myself be railroaded by the NFL if a court never found me guilty of something.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?
I don't think whatever Zeke did or didn't do have anything to do with the Cowboys organization. If another star player on another team such as Antonio Brown was in the same situation as Zeke, I don't think that we would say it is reflecting badly on the Steelers.

  5. I don't think that Zeke should be suspended because he was never proven guilty of the crime. You are innocent until proven guilty so he shouldn't be suspended. However, if he were found guilty, I think he should be suspended for even longer.

I think it would be better if he missed the beginning of the season. That way if the Cowboys make it to the playoffs Zeke would be available to play.

If I was truly innocent I would definitely keep appealing the NFL. I wouldn't want to get punished for something I didn't do. Zeke giving up makes him look like he could really be guilty.

I don't think this changes how the Cowboys look at all. Even though Zeke is one of their best players, he is his own person and his actions don't speak for the entire Cowboys administration.

  6. I do not think Zeke should have been suspended because he was never proven guilty in court, the NFL gave him the suspension based off of assumptions and very little evidence. I think the NFL should have waited and continued the investigation and waited to give him the suspension until more was known.

If I were the Cowboys I'd rather have Zeke serve the first 6 games of the season because the end of the season is usually when the push for the playoffs come and you should have a full team when this comes around.

If I was innocent I would keep appealing because it is not fair to serve a 6 game suspension when you're innocent. However, if I was guilty I would do was Zeke did which is take the suspension.

This does not give the Cowboys a bad look because this happens so much in the NFL which is unfortunate but no one looks at the team as a whole when it happens.

  7. 1) I think he deserves to be suspended because he did break the NFL's rules and could even be breaking the law. If he has broken the law in my opinion he's lucky to only have a six game ban.

    2) I would say that they should split it three and three because then Zeke can cut his suspension short for next year without totally ruining this season for the team or the next one.

    3) I would probably just take the suspension so that the bad image can start to fade off my name and my team.

    4) Cowboys now look like they value players and money over people. It also puts a negative image on the rest of the league for employing such people.

  8. 1) I think the NFL was premature with this suspension as Zeke has not been proven guilty in court. He technically is innocent until proven guilty, so I don't believe he should be suspended.

    2) I think it would have been best for Zeke to just get the suspension over with at the start, and focus all of the attention towards his play on the field. The appeals dragged on, and may have become a distraction for the Cowboys. He was playing in multiple close games they ended up losing, proving how crucial he is in the home stretch of the season, with multiple must win games ahead.

    3) As I said in my above answer, I probably would have just gotten it out of the way. However, if Zeke is truly innocent, then he shouldn't need to serve it. If he deep down knew he was guilty, then I think it was a bad call on his part.

    4) The Cowboys have a really poor track record with criminals, so I don't think much changes. I think this hurts Zeke as many just assume he's guilty because of his team's history. It's very unfortunate, but I don't think this one controversial case is enough to change many opinions on the Dallas Cowboys as a whole.

  9. I do believe that Zeke should be suspended. As many other students said, he was not proven guilty in court. However, he is guilty in the eyes of the NFL, and that's all that matters. If he was guilty in court, he would be arrested, not just suspended.

I think Zeke should have pled guilty at the beginning of the season. It would allow them time at the end of the season to make up for the struggle in the beginning of the season. Also, the league tends to be less competitive at the beginning of the season.

Honestly, I think Zeke knew he was not going to win. If I were him, if I were innocent, I probably would just plead guilty to get the suspension over with.

This does not give the Cowboys a bad look. It looks bad for Zeke yes, but mostly Roger Goodell and the NFL organization.

  10. Do you think Zeke deserves to receive a suspension?

I do think Zeke deserves a suspension, but only after his due process plays out. It is important not to jump to a conclusion, but I do think that if he is convicted officially then he should be reprimanded immediately. What he is accused of is a major problem in the NFL, and the league itself tries to distance itself from domestic violence instances. So, if not for actual justice, Zeke’s suspension is a message to other athletes not to get tangled up in domestic violence.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

I would rather have him serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season. This is because the team still has time to figure out its own identity before a playoff push occurs. The first six games of the season don’t always showcase the best matchups either, so the games are more likely to be a toss up. If the suspension occurred at the end of the season and the Cowboys were to make the playoffs, then Zeke would not be in the same flow as the rest of the team.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?

I would have continued to appeal because the NFL’s investigation should not be prioritized over an official legal investigation. Also, football is an extremely fragile sport and injuries occur often, so appealing would ensure a bit more longevity in the short term. Taking the suspension, as Zeke did, is good morally and reflects well on his character, but may also be seen as him accepting the accusations against him.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?

This incident does give the Cowboys a bad look. They have a reputation already for signing problematic players, and their young star is now one of many. Also, owner Jerry Jones is fighting vehemently on behalf of Zeke, and may seem as if he does not regard domestic abuse as too serious of an issue.

  11. 1. I do believe that Elliot deserves to be suspended because he violated the NFL's policy. When a worker violates a work policy then it is the reserved right of the employer to terminate or suspend the worker.

2.I would have preferred to have Elliot serve his suspension at the beginning of the year. I believe this because the last 6 games of the season are crucial for teams that are in the running for a playoff spot. By having Elliot miss these crucial games, the Cowboys have not been looking good for playoff contention.

3.If Elliot believed he was innocent then I would've continued to appeal the ruling. This could've possibly proved his innocence somehow, which would result in him not missing any games.

    4. This incident does have a negative impact on the reputation of the Cowboys. The Cowboys have already dealt with these same incidents, so by having a continuous tiring of them, then it shows a pattern of Cowboys players. Jerry Jones's support of Elliot portrays him as maybe empathetic to those types of offenders.

  12. He does not deserve a suspension. There was not enough evidence for legal action to go through, so the NFL should not be taking action on things that may or may not have happened.

Beginning of the season. Getting a player back mid-season can be very important to picking up a team. Most players get fatigued throughout the season, so adding a fresh player mid year would be helpful.

I would have continued appearing if I had actually not done anything wrong - Clearing my name would be my first priority.

No. Players aren't really considered to represent the brand of a team in situations like this. Otherwise, players like this wouldn't get signed. People watch sports to see good teams play.

  13. 1. I do believe Zeke deserved the suspension, but not six games worth. There is not enough evidence to proven guilty in court. However, he still violated the NFL's domestic violence policy, but a 2-4 game suspension would have been more appropriate.

    2. At the beginning of the season. You need a player like Zeke for the meat of the season, plus he would be fresh, that would be critical for the back end of the season. The Cowboys would probably in a much better position now if he had his suspension at the beginning of the season instead of serving right now.

    3. I would have continued to appeal because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, football is an extremely fragile sport and injuries occur often, so appealing would ensure a bit more longevity in the short term. Taking the suspension, as Zeke did, is good morally and reflects well on his character, but may also be seen as him accepting the accusations against him.

    4. This incident does give the Cowboys a bad look. They have a reputation already for signing problematic players, and their young star is now one of many. The blame for signing these player has to fall on Jerry Jones, who has fought for each player to get away clean with whatever crime they committed or rule they violated. It shows that he thinks all these crimes/violations are not as important as being on the field for the Dallas Cowboys. That is not true, and this does add to the many blemishes on this franchise.

  14. Do you think Zeke deserves to receive a suspension?
I think he deserves the suspension, the fact is broke the personal conduct policy, and as if any player were to break it they are deserving of the suspension. The NFL found enough evidence to prove that he broke the policy, therefore, he deserves the suspension.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?
I would way rather have Zeke take the games off in the beginning of the season. As in the beginning of the season the stakes aren’t as high but come the colder weather and playoffs around the corner it is important to have your best players on the field. With Zeke also coming off basically a six week long bye week he can come back eager and healthy to dominate on the field.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
It depends on if I really did believe that I did not do it. In his case he appealed so he definitely wanted to fight it initially but only you know yourself if you are guilty and getting the suspension out of the way is the best for his team. Yet, if the NFL did make these statements about Zeke that were in fact false that would be very unprofessional, therefore, the best way is to conform with the NFL.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?
I feel like a player’s choices and the decisions they make should not reflect poorly on a team. I do not think this gives the Cowboys a bad look necessarily, yet, it definitely does not look good. The Cowboys backing up Zeke does show something but they have also had problems in the past with players and the constant support of them is not for the better of the organization on a cultural and belief standpoint.

  15. Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?

I do not think that Zeke deserved to be suspended. I think it's absurd that the NFL has the power to punish a player that hasn't been found guilty in court. They couldn't find enough evidence in the court of law, so it's silly that the NFL conducted their own investigation, and based off of that they chose to suspend him.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

If I was the Cowboys, I would definitely want Zeke to serve his suspension in the beginning of the season. When they would have been getting him back, mid-season, is the time where you start to make that push into the playoffs. Having someone like Ezekiel Elliott if you're the cowboys is make or break for your team. The last few weeks the Cowboys have been having serious offensive struggles, so it's clear that they would need Zeke if they wanted to make a postseason run.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?

If I was Zeke, I would've taken the suspension. Whether he did it or not is besides the point. As evident in his agents statement, Zeke's best interests are for his team and his family, so he believed this was the right move. I would've done the same for a couple of reasons. One of which is from the family aspect. It must've been very hard for him and his friends/family to deal with this. It goes beyond football, and it was a distraction that was interfering with the way they want to live their lives. The second aspect would be for his team. It's clear that the attributes he brings week in and week out are necessities for the Cowboys, so having him back for two games before the playoffs, and then the playoffs if they get in is very important for Dallas.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?

I think that the Cowboys already had a bad look, and this just reiterates what everyone already thought about this team. Jerry Jones is known for signing players based on their skill, ignoring their background out of football. Every year for the Cowboys, suspensions are a common theme, and this is only contributing to this problematic situation. It gives the franchise a very bad reputation, and this is just adding fuel to the fire.

  16. Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?

I do believe that Zeke should have been suspended if the league did truely find enough evidence to believe he broke their policy. As the commissioner it is well within goodells rights to suspend players especially if the crime is as serious as Zeke's was rumored to be. Furthermore with the struggles the NFL has had with violence it only makes sense that they would try an make an example of zeke as he is a star.
If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?
I would rather have Zeke at the end of the season, this way everyone is healthy an maybe the team can stay in the playoff hunt until zeke comes back. Furthermore Zeke would be able to come back six weeks in with fresh legs.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
Yes I would have continued to have appealed the suspension as Zeke did because there is a legit argument that he should not have been suspended. Also as a star it is zekes responsibility to do whatever possible to get back on the field.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?
The Cowboys already have a bad look having drafted the troubled Randy Gregory and than making the hilariously poor decision to sign Greg Hardy fresh off an assault charge. These charges against Zeke only further cement what people thought about the team an the culture there.

  17. Do you think Zeke deserves to receive a suspension?

I think that Zeke does deserve the suspension, except not 6 games worth. Yes, the NFL found him guilty for violating the league's personal conduct policy, however, 6 games is too much of a punishment. Having a team missing a starter for 6 games is unfair for that team, let alone one of their star players being suspended for 6 games will hurt the team significantly.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

I would have Zeke miss the first 6 games because the season would still be young and it's not like they need him for a playoff push within the first 6 weeks. Ezekiel Elliot is a key player for the Cowboys and I would not want to have such a game changing player out for when the team is trying to get a spot in the playoffs.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?

I would’ve continued appealing to fight for my innocence, however, the NFL did find evidence on him, so unless he was innocent, it was the right thing to do to just take the suspension. Also, he wasn’t probably going to get the appeal against the NFL, so it was better that he just gave in and started his suspension.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?

I don’t think this gives the Cowboys a bad look, but rather Zeke a bad look. Despite Zeke being a big player on the Cowboys, one bad action on him should not reflect on the team. Also, even though this is a big deal, people’s view on Zeke won’t change that much and they’ll probably think of him as the same and ignore this because he still is a very good player.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?

I belief that the NFL shouldn't be able to punish a player for a crime that he wasn't convicted of in court. Zeke was found innocent and the NFL should respect the courts decision. It would only be a waste of time to redo the trial and will only anger fans and players.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?

I would rather have it at the end of the season so that the Cowboys can get off to a good start and get some momentum before Zeke leaves. Missing the last games will also allow Zeke to rest and be more healthy for the playoffs.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
I would have done the same thing Zeke did because the issue was becoming a nuisance to him. The case was also hurting his reputation as well as the Cowboy's and it would be great to get this case over his head.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?

Yes, if the players of a team are doing illegal or bad things it reflects on the franchise. Zeke getting alleged for domestic violence only gives the Cowboys bad coverage and a bad image. If the Cowboys keep having players like Zeke less people will support the team.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. I do not think this suspension should be bestowed on Zeke until anything is proven and the legal process takes place. I understand the NFL is making an example out of players who are charged with these crimes but it is also important to know that not all these players are necessarily guilt of these accusations.

    2. If I were the cowboys I would rather of had zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the year. The NFL season is long and there is plenty of time to makeup ground after 6 weeks as opposed to the position they are in now struggling while making a playoff push.

    3. I probably would have continued appealing as Zeke did because it worked so well initially and bought him a large amount of time before actually having to serve. These appeals could have even gotten him a full season of play potentially so I do think he made the right decision going for it.

    4. This definitely isn't a good look for the cowboys, who are a team who has a reputation with being involved in cases like this in the past. Although I do not think this was handled well by the NFL, this certainly does not bode well for the Cowboys.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?
No Zeke shouldn't of been suspended because he faced no legal trouble and the lady dropped the charges. It is ridiculous how he faced no legal trouble and the league conducted their own investigation. They discovered that the previous accuser had lied about parts of the accusal and still ended up getting suspended although they could've waited to conduct a full investigation to make sure he was or was not guilty.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?
I would rather he serve the suspension at the beginning of the season just to get it out of the way because the suspension was on his mind the entire time.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
I would have continued appealing because the NFL legal system is terrible and he would've been able to make it through more games.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?
This does not give the cowboys a bad look because there have been accusations against at least one player on every NFL team. If anything, it is damaging to the league as a whole.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Do you think Zeke deserves to recieve a suspension?
Even as a giants fan, I have to say that he should not be suspended. Charges were dropped, and he did not even have legal punishment for it.

If you were the cowboys, would you rather have Zeke serve a 6 game suspension at the beginning of the season or the end of the season?
I would at the beginning, because he is a key aspect to the team, and is needed for playoff motivation and for his talent in the race for a higher seed placement for the cowboys.

Would you have continued appealing or just finally take the suspension like Zeke did?
I would have continued because it is important to fight for what you believe in, and to follow your morals. The NFL is wrong in his mind, so he should not allow them to walk all over him.

Does this give the Cowboys a bad look?
This does not have a bad look in the reputation of the team moral, but it makes them look bad in the sense that they will not perform as well without a key player.
