  1. Yes I believe that the playoff should be expanded because there are multiple teams that are good enough to beat the top 4 teams. Also UCF went undrafted and didn't earn a spot even though they did everything right. Ohio State also beat undrafted Wisconsin in the big 10 championship and still didn't earn a spot.

I think it should be a mix of the best teams like Alabama and of teams that won their conference like Ohio state.

All are important factors and should be taken into consideration but I think most conference champions deserve to be in unless they have a bad loss and their is a more deserving team.

I think More games would only bring in more money. Either way I think the games will be sold out the only difference would be that there would be more of them.

  2. I think the CFB should be expanded because as it said in the article the top four contenders to win are have either been playing middle of the pack teams or have just been having really good offense and bad defense.

I think if the CFB were to expand. I think the tournament should include the conference champions, because they are the best from there conference. And those are the teams that should be competing for national title. The best teams from there conference should be the ones fighting for a national championship.

I think the criteria selection should be top of the conference and strength of schedule. Because if you are playing against quality teams such as clemson, and Auburn. You are clearly a good football team. And if you win your conference you have shown you are one of the best.

I think more games would benefit the NCAA financially because when better teams play each other there is more excitement and pressure and people are willing to come watch. And when people come to watch they pay money, which benefits the NCAA. Because they are making more money off these games.

  3. I think the CFB playoffs should be expanded because the tournament would be more exciting and competitive with more teams. There are definitely more teams than four that are good enough or capable of winning a national title which is the main reason the CFB playoffs should be expanded.

I think the CFB playoffs should include the top 8-10 teams in the nation because those are the elite programs in the country that can contend for a national title. Also, many teams in the top 8-10 were previously ranked top 4 but moved down after a bad game.

Every factor is extremely important for the college football committee because there could be multiple schools with the same record, points per game, and other stats but one small stat can give one school an advantage over another which is why every stat is important when making selections.

More games will definitely financially benefit the NCAA because most people will want to go out and watch two high quality football programs play each other in a big game (especially the CFB playoffs).

  4. I think the CFB should be expanded because there are plenty of other top ranked teams that are good enough and can compete and/or win against one of the top 4 teams. Multiple ranked teams have the same or even better records than the 4 qualifying teams as well.

If the CFB playoffs were to be expanded, I would expand it by having the top 10 ranked teams play starting from the #1 vs the #10 and so on. Expanding the CFB playoffs would generate more money and give a longer final season as well.

There are many components that go into selecting the teams. I believe that the most important components are win/lose record, strength of schedule, margin of winning score, and overall game statistics.

I think more games will bring in much more money, especially if they are playoff games with some of the CFB's top teams playing.

  5. I do think that the CFB playoffs should be expanded because more teams deserve to a shot at a championship based off of their body of work during the season. It is very hard to determine who the best 4 teams are, and it takes away the chance for a team like Ohio State, that has proved they can beat any team in the country.

I think the committee should decide on a combination of conference champions and wildcards. If a team wins a power conference, they should automatically be included, but there also needs to be a couple of wild card slots for a team like Alabama this year that is not in the conference championship, but has prove to be an elite team.

As of now, i think the committee should consider a combination of things, including strength of schedule, conference wins, and signature wins. There is no perfect formula, but these are all important factors to me. Another important factor is if a team passes the eye test and will match up in the playoffs.

I think more games will lead to more revenue for the NCAA. When the magnitude is this high, people would still love to attend these games. There are tons of dedicated college fans that would fill the seats and create a loud environment. I think the bigger issue is how well the NCAA would handle student athletes having to miss even more school.

  6. I think there should be an expansion because as a viewer it is more fun to watch more teams compete for the title.

It should be the top ranked teams so the teams who are in harder conferences still get a chance to win it all.

I think all these factors should be evaluated for who gets selected because the playoffs should fairly include the best teams in College Football

More games would only get the NCAA more money from attendance and TV. adding a few extra games a year would not depreciate the games from earlier in the season.

  7. I think that it should be expanded. It is unfair for some teams to get left out, and viewership would likely increase if there were more teams and games played.

If it were to get expanded, I think that both the higher ranked teams and the conference champions should be considered. Higher ranked teams may be the better option because then teams I harder conferences also have a chance to be included.

I think that all of these criteria should be considered when selecting teams. A combination of all of these things is the best way to choose the best teams.

I think more games will definitely bring in more money for the NCAA. The number of viewers should either stay the same or go up, and there will be more games to watch. All of this means more money.

  8. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
As much as I would love to see a extended college football playoff I can't help but think how unfair it is to the players. Players are already sitting out there team's bowl game in order to make them avoid injury so it's clear the players don't want to play more games than they need to. Furthermore these playoff games would all be high intensity games that would surely end in injury.
If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
I would keep the selection committee as I do believe it is best to have a thought process around how can get into the playoffs. Every once an a while a team can almost wonder into a conference championship an having them in the playoffs would be a mistake.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
I believe it should be a combination of all of these things, Not one of these can completely define a team an thus all must be measured.
Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
This depends on how many playoff games there will be, if it becomes more than eight than I believe this is a strong possibilities. The gap between the number one an ten teams for example is usually quite large an can lead to blowouts.

  9. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
I don't think so because adding more teams to the playoffs will increase the amount of games in the season which isn't good for the players and can decrease the quality of the playoff games. Injuries and the time wasted for the first round could be avoided since the higher seed would most likely win anyways. There will be very few people who would watch the games and for the teams who do get added will have little chance of actually winning the championship.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
I would have the top 8 ranked teams make the playoffs and play in three games (quarterfinal, semifinal, final). This way all the teams have a chance at the championship and there re more teams included.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
The criteria should be a combination of record/losses and strength of schedule. The team with the hardest schedule and the best record should be the highest seed.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
I think the games will give the NCAA a little bit of money but adding a quarter finals would be less watched then the semis and final so there won't be much of a benefit.

  10. 1. I think that there should be an expansion of the College Football Playoffs because it would increase the intensity of college football playoffs. With more teams competing it won't be the same few teams that has made the playoffs in the past years and instead will have teams that are not usually in the playoffs, which will increase competition.

2.The teams would qualify for the playoffs by winning the conference of major conference then the remaining teams would be selected by their strength of schedule.

    3. The conference champions will automatically qualify and within those champions a committee will decide the seeds for each. Then with the other teams the committee will decide who will be allowed in the playoffs and their seeds.

    4. The addition of games will lead to the NCAA making more money, but it will also lead to the increase in attendance and watching of games.

  11. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
    - Yes. It should have at least one team from each power 5 conference and then a team that is not in a power 5 conference. For example, it could be Clemson Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and a wildcard like UCF. UCF was undefeated this season and should obviously be in the playoff.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
    - As shown in the response above. It would be the conference winners from each power 5 school, and then a wildcard, like UCF.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
    - Strictly conference titles. It would give underdogs the chance to win it all, and for a team like Miami who had one late loss, they could still make it.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
    - Yes it would benefit the NCAA, because it would make things more exciting, similar to like March Madness I think.

  12. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
I think that the CFB playoff should not be expanded because I think that having the current spots are a fair amount. Adding more spots would in theory allow more teams to play and offer a variation, however, having the 4 teams play creates very competitive and entertaining games because there are so few spots.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
I think that the playoff committee should still select who makes the playoffs because although conference champions are supposed to be the best of their conference, sometimes there can be a weaker conference, and although there is a best team to that conference, there can be many better teams in another conference that would be cheated out of a playoff spot because they are in a stronger conference. I’d expand it to 8 teams though because if it were to be expanded, it should only be expanded by one round.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
I think that the committee’s criteria for selections should be purely based on how hard a team’s schedule is and their record compared to the difficulty of their schedule. Record alone doesn’t accurately describe a team, as one team could be consistently playing easy teams to boost their record as a great team could be playing very hard teams and have a worse record.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
I think that they would financially benefit the NCAA because it’s not like nobody would go to see a playoff game. Also, there would be equal or more attendance because in college football, the colleges tend to have lots of school spirit, so many college students buy tickets. Also since they’re a playoff game, more students would see the game because of school spirit, so it might actually raise attendance and benefit the NCAA significantly.

  13. 1. The College Football Playoff should be expanded because of the entertainment value it would add. There should certainly be more than four teams because of the controversy that comes with the decisions. By expanding it to eight teams, there would be more viewers, more money to be made, and overall more excitement surrounding the playoff games.

    2. If I was in charge of expanding the playoff, it would be the best eight teams competing for the trophy. No matter what, the conference champion from of the Power 5 (SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12) would automatically get a place, although they won't get spots 1-5. The rankings would still be in order of the best eight teams though.

    3. Every factor is extremely important for the college football committee because there could be multiple schools with the same record, points per game, and other stats. If I had to rank their importance, then it would go record, conference championship (if they are), strength of schedule, signature (usually non-conference) wins, and eye test.

    4. More games will equal more revenue for the NCAA, but attendance will not suffer. Seeing how many people go to the two semifinals and the final already, expanding the tournament to eight or ten teams would get close to that attendance in the quarterfinals and on, which can only be good for college football and the NCAA.

  15. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
At first i believed that the college football playoff should be 8 teams who get in or more than 4. But, the season of college football would be too long meanwhile the 3 games within the bracket, two of them are really bowl games and take place around the same time as other bowl games. When if there were more than 4 teams that wouldn’t be possible.
If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
The way it works now with the 4 teams makes the most sense. But, if you were to do it, the most interesting way to do it would to have 8 teams that would also be decided by the committee.
What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
The way it is now makes sense, as the acknowledge all different criteria to determine the top 4 teams. As the committee thinks long and hard about their decisions that will ultimately decide the best teams and benefit the entertainment for the people who watch the playoff.
Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
I think the more games could be more likely to run into the pro schedule as playoff games are on saturdays and that could interfere. I do not think it would lead to less attendance because the college football playoff and college football in general is so highly regarded in the US. I believe most Americans wouldn’t mind having college football every weekend. Also this could engage more fan groups and create real underdogs to make it more interesting. Therefore, the NCAA could definitely benefit off of a larger college football playoff.

  17. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?

I think that the CFB playoff should be expanded. I think it should be expanded in such a way where the top team of each of the power 5 conferences gets in, and then there is some sort of wildcard as the 6th team. For example, this year that wildcard would be UCF who went undefeated, but didn't even come close to having a spot in the playoffs. Right now, there is a lot of controversy and rightfully so. Adding two more teams who are deserving of getting in, and stop the arguments.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?

If they were expanded, here's the exact format I would do it in. I would make it so the conference champions of the power 5 conferences make it in, unless they have very poor losses that make it so they don't deserve to be in it. The 6th team would be a wildcard, and that is what will make this process so successful. Everyone loves that underdog that this year could've been UCF. Everyone would've loved to see them play against the best teams, but because of the format of the playoffs, they weren't able to get in despite going undefeated. If there was a team like this each year, it would also add a lot from the entertainment aspect, as more people would love to watch the games that these type of teams are playing in.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)

I think that the committee's criteria should primarily be conference champions. If you win your conference at the end of the year, it clearly means you are strongest team within your division. If that team may be un-deserving, then the committee should look at its losses and if there were a couple of bad ones compared to a team that didn't win and had a better record without those bad losses, then in that case that team should make the playoff instead of the conference champions. It's a lot easier said then done, and this process is extremely difficult, so there will always be talks about what the committee can do to be better.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
I think that more games would definitely benefit the NCAA financially. Despite maybe some teams being not as good as just the top 4, it's still a college football playoff game with major implications. I also believe that it would make the atmosphere even more exciting with two more teams that could possibly win. The meaning of the games is extremely important to college football, so the NCAA will make a lot of money with viewership and people buying tickets for these games.

  18. 1. Yes I believe the college football playoff should be expanded to 6 or 8 teams. However, any more than this would be too much as it takes away the elite status of making the playoff.

    2. I think the conference champions of the power 5 conferences should get in automatically and then have the best teams left be added to the playoff as wildcards.

    3. I definitely think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, especially because these games would be later in the year and have a very large impact on the final standings.

  19. * Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?

The CFB Playoff should not be expanded. By the time the college playoff comes around, a lot of the football attention has shifted largely to professional football playoffs. While it would be a massive financial initiative on behalf of the NCAA, the four team playoff is substantial enough to find the true national champion. It is impossible to win a fluke game twice, which would include the national semifinal and championship. Aside from the lucrative money making potential of expanding the playoff, the current system is sufficient to find the best team.

    * If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?

If it were expanded, I would include all of the Power 5 conference champions plus 3 at large bids to the next 3 highest ranked teams. This way, no team can feel as if they are left out after the end of the season. It also rewards teams who play well and prioritize their conference games, which should be as competitive as possible during the season.

    * What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)

The committee should prioritize strength of schedule and wins over ranked teams. The second tier of criteria should include close losses against top teams and conference championships. This way, the wins are factored into the method for finding the best team ahead of the losses. Also, this ensures that the teams that have taken risks and played against top teams during the season.

    * Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?

There is no chance that the NCAA would not try to do anything that can increase profits and fan involvement surrounding the national championship. More games would be more heavily attended because more schools would be involved. So, more fan bases would have the opportunity to play for a meaningful bowl game, not something like the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
The CFB playoff should be expanded because there are so many good teams that have a shot to win it and although the committee tries its hardest to pick the 4 best teams, they don't always do this and there is a case for every school on why they should be in it. With more teams in the playoff, more teams would have a shot to win, there would be more TV revenue because the top 8 schools in the nation are playing and it would be extremely entertaining and intense.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
I think 8 teams should make it. The top 8 teams in the country should make it based on strength of schedule and win percentage. Conference champions should be ranked highly, but they should not be automatic bids, because some other schools may lose late in the season in the conference championship and not make it because of that.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
The committee's criteria should be in order, Wins-Losses, Strength of schedule, and then conference champions. Wins should obviously be first, with strength of schedule next because it is much more impressive to beat 4 top 10 teams than it is to win a conference championship by only playing one top 10 team all season.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
More games would financially benefit the NCAA, one, due to TV rights because CBS would pay ridiculous amounts of money for an 8 team playoff because so many fans of different teams would enjoy it. It would also financially benefit the schools because more schools would have a chance of getting in the playoff and fans would buy more logowear representing their favorite teams.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes I believe it should be expanded as there are not really a lot of negatives. Less schools would complain about not getting in, all football fans would love to watch more massive playoff games, it would make it much more difficult and exciting for a team to win it all, and would gain television networks so much money off the amount of people watching.

I think it should stay at top 8 ranked teams but winning your conference should be a factor of course as to where you are ranked and if you get picked.

Strength of schedule is big, which teams had the most big wins, how well they did in their conference tournaments, and of course their records.

Yes of course more games would gain so much more money because who wouldn't want to watch more playoff college games? It will bring a lot more attendance and views for sure.

  22. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
    - I feel that college football playoffs should be expanded a little bit, but I am very much a fan of the small playoff opportunity. There are many reasons why they can't be expanded. For example: the physical stress these player go through is immense and more games will hurt them even further. Because of this I do not think it is logical to extend the playoffs, although it would be interesting.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
    - I feel as if it should be conference champions that move futher in the playoffs. For example in Lacrosse NCAA Playoffs, the winning conference champions move forward in the playoffs. If Football was the expand playoffs, i feel as if it should be done in this way.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
    - It should consider everything. When going into playoffs you want to have the best teams playing in the best games. if one of these things are not considered, it is hard to make a real playoff bracket, especially for football.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
    - Of course, more games would definitely benefit the NCAA. Just from one game they make millions of dollars. Especially in a playoff setting, they could make millions and millions of dollars. And by expanding the playoffs, they would make a boat load of money.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
I think that it would be better if the playoffs were to be extended; however, the season would require an expansion in the time it is underway. It would be physically challenging for the players to consistently play, and the playoff games would need to be spread out

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?
I think that both should occur with an extension of the season. It should be like the FA cup, and the Champions league, where there are inter league tournaments, and the best teams from each league compete in an even bigger competition.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
It should be formed around the physical assets of the players, and an insurance that it will be a competition among the best teams of each conference.

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
It would absolutely financially benefit the NCAA, because playoffs attract the most crowds in any sport, at any level. This would pull in a large game audience, and a large tv audience, which will only bring in more money.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes. There are so many college football teams, and so few of them are represented in the playoffs. In most professional sports, at least a quarter of the league can qualify for the playoffs, and it leads to a much more exciting format.

Top ranked teams and conference champions should both be included. Potentially even one or two other teams should make it.

Strength of schedule and win/loss record compared to other teams are the things that should be considered for playoff participation.

More games would only benefit the NCAA. There would not be decreased attendance because tickets to those games are in high demand and more games would still fill stadiums because playoff football is more exciting than regular season football.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Should the CFB playoff be expanded? Why?
Ys because I feel like only having the top 4 teams prevents amazing CInderealla runs that could happen. To be in the playoffs you have to have a very stronger resume which prevents very good teams from having a chance to win.

If the CFB playoff were to expanded, how would you do it? Should the top ranked teams make the playoff, or should conference champions be included as well?

I would have 8 teams or 16 teams and have based on seeding. It could turn into a mini march maddess.

What should the committee's criteria for selections be? (strength of schedule, losses, conference champions etc.)
The best team which include record and strength of schedule. Same way they pick it now (team with the best resume)

Do you think more games would financially benefit the NCAA, or will more games lead to less attendance?
Yes because it could draw in more TV money like march madness does.
